  • 5 cups canola or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 4½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
